"Moffou" a 15x11 inches Handmade paper pulp painting of artist Keita Morimoto. I’ve been training as a papermaker for the last year and Pulp painting is an advanced papermaking technique where plant fibers are beaten to a pulp , pigmented and then used as paint. It is a challenging method of painting and an interesting pictorial problem , basically imagine painting a water-colour on a paper that is completely saturated with water using only ketchup bottles and palettes knives :) it’s a fun time! Its also hard to control but it really force me to simplify my shapes and allows me to focus on the big masses of color and their relationship rather than lines so that way it allows me to get to the likeness of the model without relying on my usual methods and bring a certain level of abstraction in my figurative work. I’m about to start training another painter in that technique next month so thats pretty exciting
